In re Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation, Case No. 08-mc-0511 (PLF) (D.D.C.) is one of the largest civil rights class actions in U.S. history. The major challenges were first, to enact legislation that would appropriate over $1 Billion dollars to black farmers and the second was to reach a potential class that was nearly 100,000 individuals across the United States, and then to allow all qualifying class members an opportunity to sit knee-to-knee with attorney to complete a 16 page claim form, all within a claims process period of only 180 days. As a direct result of the founder of Maestro Strategic Partners’ work, President Obama signed the Claims Resolution Act of 2010 which appropriated the funds necessary to resolve the case, a claim process was designed and executed which resulted in 384 meetings across 66 cities in 23 states and in Washington, D.C. – all in only 180 days. The case settled for $1.25 billion.
